The Food Diaries // 001
I am always looking for new ways to spice up my blog. Itās kind of hard to blog when thereās nothing exciting going on in my life except for the increasing amounts of television Iām watching (although, I have yet to start Game of Thronesā¦)
One thing that is always exciting in my life, however, is all the new places to eat I get to discover. Thatās why Iāve decided to start The Food Diaries, because what better way to document my love of food? (Other than on Instagram)
And so, to mark the first post of āThe Food Diariesā, my first entry will be aboutĀ Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant and Market.
āItās all about the shrimpā
It really, really is. When I was younger I was actually allergic to shrimp, but Iāve now outgrown this allergy, and I am so glad because it made me appreciate Bubba even more. Not only that, but Bubba is inspired by the 1994 film Forrest Gump, which is one of my favourite films of all time.
My momma always said, “Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.ā
When one of my friends suggested it as a place for ourĀ catch ups we have in our group, I immediately said yes as soon as I browsed the website. Usually, I can choose what I want before I go from looking at their menu, but let me tell you this⦠Bubbaās menu is extensive. And the pictures just make you want to drool all over the place.
One of the highlights of Bubba is the merchandise store. Downstairs they had merchandise for the restaurant including t-shirts, iPhone cases and stuffed animals. They even had a bench with a briefcase and a box of chocolates where you take pictures! What I really liked was that with the drink I ordered, I was able to go to the store and get a free glass to take home š
The setup is cool, as well. Once your seated, your waiter will explain to you how everything works. They have a flip board that says āRun, Forrest, Runā and āStop, Forrest, Stopā. When youāre ready to order you flip the board to Stop and when you donāt need anything you flip it to Run. I loved it! Alongside the main menus, they have table tennis bats with the drinks menu.
After a lot of “hmmāing” and “ahhāing”, I opted for Mamaās Southern Fried Chicken with a skewer of shrimp. The menu describes it best: “Boneless Breast of Chicken, fresh golden Corn and Mashed Potatoes with Gravyā¦better than you can imagine!ā
Food has made me happy a numerous amount of times, and let me tell you – I was so happy when the food arrived. Along with my Tennessee Iced Tea, I was in heaven. What was even better was when I moved aside a piece of chicken and revealed more mashed potato. Oh lawd. The chicken was the perfect amount of fried and crispy, the gravy was delicious and don’t even get me started on the mashed potato. I absolutely loved the skewer of shrimp, especially with the lemon squeezed on it.
Service was excellent, food and drinks were excellent and I can definitely say that I will be back to visit. I definitely would love to try the starters and their desserts. Also, they play Forrest Gump on their TVs on repeat. You canāt get any better than that.

HOMG. I’d totally go to this place just because of its name and the Forrest Gump references! Forrest Gump is one of my favourite films, so this restaurant really tickles me! š I especially like how they put Forrest Gump on repeat on the telly! That’s too funny!
Even though this is all the way in UK, I’m glad you shared this gem on the blog! Awesome food entry š

I absolutely LOVE this blog idea. I can’t wait to see all the places you recommend. I was drooling so much while reading this. And nice photos! Your blogging style has really changed since I first met you when we both started out.
I had no idea Bubba’s was a real place! And I thought it was located somewhere in the south in the US but I guess not? Is this one the only branch or is it a chain?
Also, I LOVE the “Run, Forest, Run,” “Stop, Forest, Stop” idea. I absolutely love that movie and it’s just such a unique way to get the attention of waiters. Seriously, it’s a problem at other restaurants.
Can’t wait to read more of these posts!

So how about that Gotham? FLASh???! ARROW??!?!?!??!?! Ok, those are the only 3 I watch.
Itās awesome to go out on food adventures, but itās so expensive at the same time!! My food diary is practically my food blog ;o. But hurray for your food diaries š :D. Itās great that you outgrown the shrimp allergies, you can now have shrimp cocktails and stuff like that ;).
Bubba Gump reminds me of Joeās Crab Shack with the souvenirs tucked in the store. Your food looks so delicious! Hope all of you enjoyed your food ;).

This is such a good idea for a blog series. I hope the Bubba Gump restaurants in London than our American ones. I’ve been to one in Orlando, New Orleans, San Diego and Honolulu, and the only decent one was Honolulu. The restaurants are always fun and I always have to buy a shirt or a cup, but the food quality just isn’t what I’m hoping for. But your food has looked better than mine ever has!

I’ve only been to Bubba Gump once. I didn’t much like it; the atmosphere was too loud and the people all seemed much too cheery. I think at one point someone was there celebrating a birthday and it was like hell broke loose for a few minutes. I’ll probably give it another try some time in the future, but I’m pretty picky about how my food is prepared and I’ve never really liked fried foods.
